Today I’m bringing you guys something which I haven’t done in quite some time, event coverage. Starting back with the site post covid, I thought it would be nice to go back to my roots & start attending some car shows, maybe some car limes & some race events as well. I believe it would be a nice break in between the project builds to get a glimpse of what the car community is up to. You guys can let me know if this is something you would be interested in or just cover the project side of things & the major events. 

 

First up on the list of event coverage is the Retro Classics Barbados ” Retro Car Show”; this was held in the parking lot of the Williams Tower building in Warrens. The turnout was absolutely amazing from my perspective, I really wasn’t expecting to see that many people out. In recent times I’ve really been stagnant when it comes to attending car show & meets. The positive response in attendance from not only patrons but those who brought out their vehicles completely blew me away. The cars on hand were quite pleasing to see, ranging from pristine restoration builds to modified classics & there were also a few full out race car builds. 

The atmosphere felt great, it didn’t take very long for me to settle in & get back into the rhythm of things. It was nice being outside again with some familiar faces & having the opportunity to soak in some of the newer builds that I hadn’t gotten a chance to see up close. I have to give a huge shoutout to the Retro Classics Barbados team for throwing a great show. Although I didn’t arrive until the middle of the afternoon, from my perspective it was well laid out & gave me all the right feels of what a show like that should be. It’s always a great thing when an event feels as tho it finished too early, so kudos to the team & I’m already excited for the next show. 

 

Enough rambling for now, let’s move ahead with the footage… 

As mentioned, the event was held at Williams Tower building which is shared with Ace H&B who is one of the main sponsors for the show… 

Starting at the edge of the lot, both Toyota Starlet KP61 & Mazda FD RX-7 owned by Sol Esuf were parked next to each other… 

The FD was a recent purchase of his & sat on a set of OG spec Volk Racing TE37s… 

The engine bay remained untouched as it was tastefully modded in Japan before reaching our shores… 

Rocking a full ARC SMIC kit…

Along with a HKS intake system to the factory turbos easily made this car drip with nostalgic tuning vibes… 

Parked beside it was his KP61 Starlet sitting on a set of Tom’s Racing Igeta wheels that was recently torn apart & resprayed. The car was previously owned & built to spec by Dominic Brooker. For those who may want to take a look at the build series, I’ve provided the link HERE…

A glimpse under the hood at the fully built 4A-GE 16 valve motor rocking a set of TWM ITB’s. Another point to note, the car was so well put together he was able to take home the Car of The Show award…

Not far away was this Williams Industries Suzuki Swift GTi racecar, also another build that brought back some memories as these cars are hardly seen on the streets anymore… 

Parked next to it was another car from Sol’s collection; not close to being a classic but always great to see is his full blacked out Ariel Atom 4…

A few bikers from Black Knights as they rolled in on their way to park with their club… 

Working my way down the line I came across another one of Sol’s project cars, this time it was his Evo IX street car build. Those following would remember this car running a 9 second pass at our last 1/4 mile drag event. Click HERE for an in-depth view the build… 

This Evo VI was in pristine condition down to the wheels, whoever the owner is did an amazing job at restoring it… 

Eighth gen Nissan Cedric sitting period correct on a set of colour matched wheels…

Hyundai Tiburon in a custom matte green finish. Being a car which never came to our market it was a shocker to see one attendance at the show…

Lexus SC300 on a set of staggered wheels…

This Nissan Datsun 120Y coupe was tastefully done sitting on a set of period correct wheels… 

A random snap as I worked my way through the cars towards the main area… 

David Balgobin Jr freshly restored EG Civic was in attendance & was one of the cars to take home the Crowd’s Choice Award… 

Parked directly next to it was his father’s 700hp built Evo IV which was also recently restored & was back on the factory wheels… 

This Mini has always been a hit at the classic shows over the years & is well presented… 

As if the exterior treatment wasn’t enough, special attention to detail was paid throughout the engine bay… 

The attention to detail also extends on the interior with the door handle & window crank all matching. Of course I cant forget to mention the Union Jack draped over the passenger seat… 

A pair of pristine condition Subaru 1800s were on display…

The main area where the DJ was set up along with food & drinks on sale to patrons…

A few shots of Tristan Gibbs’ mint AE86 Trueno hatch showcasing the great paintwork that was under the Initial D panda livery he worn for quite some time. Tristan also took home the Crowd Choice Award on the day…  

Trident Insurance was also one of the sponsors of the show & they had a tent setup on hand… 

Which showcased their rally prepared EG Civic owned by Paul Inniss… 

Race inspired Datsun sitting period correct…

Very clean example of a Volkswagen Beetle, rare enough to find one in this condition & even more so a left hand drive version…

There was another KP61 on hand at the show but on the complete opposite end of the spectrum. This example was a full out race car build still loaded onto the trailer. Rocking a full TRD widebody N2 body kit sitting on a set of the ever popular “figs”…  

Great attention to detail was paid throughout the entire car with touches of red & black accents. Under the hood sat a 4A-GE 20v motor with a set of extended stacks… 

Toyota Tercel with some nice paint work sitting on a set of TE37s…

Another vehicle that is hardly seen within the day to day commute is the Nissan B12 wagon… 

The EP71 Toyota Starlet was a very popular platform, so it was interesting to see one with such a modern twist in regards to the wheel fitment… 

A couple more randoms of the layout… 

A&A Auto Parts had a tent display with a wide selection of Wolf lubricants they carry… 

Also on display was their Wolf Lubricants sponsored Honda Civic EP3 Type R rally car owned & driven by Jamal Brathwaite… 

This Toyota Corolla AE110 was sitting on a very aggressive set of wheels. So much so that both front & rear fenders were pulled to their limits to accommodate the fitment… 

 Members of the Black Knights biker club were on hand… 

Track had a booth set up with a few of their batteries on hand in various sizes to fit most applications…

Fabian Clarke brought out his old school Lincoln Town Car which was sitting heavy on a set of 20s…  

The diversity was certainly present in the form of a Jeep Cherokee… 

On the topic of diversity I have to mention this widebody Suzuki Swift sedan. This was by far the most outrageous build at the show for me…

It was mostly due to the motor setup in this thing. Stuffed between the shock towers was a turbocharged 2.4L motor utilizing a custom intake manifold with a 100mm throttle body. A huge amount of custom work went into play ensuring everything still functions as it should… 

Not exactly a classic but Radcliff made sure to give the gold treatment to his 330i which stirred up quite some buzz…

Ricardo Clarke brought out his R32 Skyline which was a sight for sore eyes, it’s not very often you get a chance to see one these days…

It was sitting on a set JNC 01 wheels in a 17×9 sizing… 

A nice addition was the Rocket Bunny Pandem rear wing… 

All in all a tastefully executed example of a street legend… 

80’s Toyota Corolla wagon still very much alive & going strong… 

A car that needs no introduction is Caswell’s fully restored AE100 Toyota Corolla… 

In an island where the scene is heavily dominated with Corollas, it’s not an easy task stand out. Cas manages do that all while making it look quite simple…  

The car is hammered on a set of Work Meisters with just the right offset to clear the factory fenders…

Yes you are seeing correct, that is a Suzuki Jimny front end converted into a mobile BBQ grill… 

Parked directly next to it was of course the Jimny that tows it… 

A few more randoms taken throughout the day… 

Peter Harrison’s was able to bring out his Corvette Stingray…

A big crowd favorite is Knuckles’ KP61 Starlet; to anyone seeing him in action, its safe to say at this point this is a stunt car…

Mark’s Auto Spares sponsored Daihatsu Charmant build which looks crazy enough as is. However this thing has a boosted K24 motor swap stuffed under the hood… 

Stefan brought out his most recent build; a stance inspired 4 door Civic which shares the exact same paint code as his S2000…

Also know for his next level of attention to detail, on the interior saw the addition of a NRG Galaxy wheel with a pink hub & boss combo to go with the wheels…

For the wheels, he has a set of polished faced JNC wheels with pink accents between the spokes & barrels…

Another shocker for me was finally being able to see Steve King’s circuit prepared BNR32 GTR up close…
