K-Swapped EG4 Build… Part 4

Just when I thought this build was as complete as it could get. I received an unexpected call from Verdon saying he just got the last package in the mail and he’s ready to hit the dyno any day now. Still in shock at the lengths he plans on taking this build, we finalized a day to head to the dyno. In today’s post, we’ll be taking a look at the results from the dyno and also a sneak peak of the next phase for this build…

Verdon has some upcoming plans for his car but before he makes any changes he decided to take the the car in its current state to the dyno to see what numbers it will put down…

Strapped down and ready to go…

 

First pull with the silencer still in…

The results from the two pulls, the first pull was 175.6whp with the silencer in place. And the second pull was 184.7whp which was pretty good for a pump gas tune.

Verdon wanted to extract a bit more power out of his motor, and the only way that was possible without breaking the motor was forced induction…

In came the intercooler piping…

And of course an upgraded map sensor, 4 bar to be specific…

With the new direction of this build, upgraded injectors were a must.

 

Now to reveal what the next phase of this build involves…

If your money was on a supercharger you were correct. Verdon contacted the guys at TTS Performance and had them ship him a complete Rotrex supercharger kit…

Now a look at the real deal… the Rotrex supercharger that will soon be making its way onto Verdon’s K20A motor…

Sol’s A80 Build…Introduction

Today I have something a little different for you guys, we’ll be taking a first look at Sol’s 1998 Toyota Supra A80 Build. Most would know about Sol and his Mitsubishi Evolution IX where he set the fastest 1/4 mile time of 9.788 secs. He is also the owner of a S2000 which puts out an impressive 415whp, that was driven by Top Gear’s Stig around the recently renovated Bushy Park Circuit during a promo for the upcoming Top Gear Festival. Digging a little deeper in his stable you will find a AE86 fully restored to pristine condition. But with the host of vehicles in his garage something was still missing, when looking around there was nothing that combined both comfort and performance.

Sol was always a fan of big cars and always had a great love for the Toyota Supra so when the opportunity presented itself for him to get one he wasted no time. It wasn’t until after he had the car that he then realized how comfortable it was. Because of this, he also noticed how tame the car was in stock form. Being the performance junkie he is, combined with the great amount of aftermarket support available for the Supra; it was a no brainer to fuse both comfort and performance.

The main goal in mind for this build  is basically to have 700whp on pump gas that can be driven daily if need be. And with comfort and reliability in mind, the car must still maintain all the full features it came with from the factory, AC,PS,PW etc. Another important rule for this build was that it must still maintain a relatively quiet exhaust.

In a nutshell, that’s basically what sparked the motivation for this build. Let’s get onto the photos so you guys can see exactly how it currently sits…

Equipped with the OEM side skirts and rear spats that will be changed over time…

Rear view where you can get a glimpse of the Greddy 3″ titanium exhaust…

One of the modifications that this Mark IV came with is an upgraded Blitz front mount intercooler…

Behind the 18″ Rota wheels you will find the standard Supra brakes which may very well remain for some time…

The specs on the wheels are 18×9 +35 wrapped in Hankook Ventus RS3 235/40/18 rubber. The suspension department is taken care of with the use of Tein flex dampeners.

For a car of this age, the interior is in pretty good shape…

Some of the upgrades that were on board was this Defi boost gauge and HKS EVC boost controller…

Under the hood sat the stock 2J with an upgraded Blitz intercooler and 3″ piping.

As you can see everything here is as standard as it can get…

When the car first arrived it had a host of these magnetic ‘balancers’ throughout the engine bay…

A view of the HKS EVC boost controller unit in the engine bay, boost pressure has been increased from 10psi to 20psi but admittedly that still is no where close to what is in store for this motor…
